A few months ago I picked up a bike from this, old, slightly racist 70 yr old guy for the princely sum of 20 english pounds, with the plan to strip it down, and build a sweet fixed gear or single speed freewheel out of it…
I started this project at least three months ago, but got so busy with work and life that I only had a few hours a week to work on it, slowely but surely though I managed to strip it, considering that it was really really rusty, and generally in bad shape, it wasnt the easiest thing to do, but needless to say about two weeks ago I finally managed to get all the old bits of it.
I then researched TONNES about every part of the bike, the bottom bracket, the best gear ratio, every little detail, so that I could order parts and put it back together. Also the sweet local bike shop in Hereford where nice enough to walk me through any processes that i couldnt get my head around, that combined with the use a hammer, loads of spanners and tools.
I finally got all the parts and started assembling it, occasionally running into problems, like having to get new bolts for something etc. and today I finally managed to finish it! (after a quick dash on to the bike shop to get a new inner tube) and yay!! its really nice to ride, and Im quickly getting used to the different way of riding.
I really enjoy working on projects, building stuff that i can then enjoy at the end, so maybe i’ll have to work on some more stuff!
I’d also like to say goodbye to my mums bike, that was my sweet sweet ride for the last few months! the basket is awesome.
(heres a picture of me with the bike)
